“the hobbit” gets a second life!

hobbit

J.R.R. Tolkien’s family had put a stop to the production of The Hobbit movie. The Tolkien family sued New Line for at least $150 million in damages for failing to pay 7.5% of gross receipts from the three Lord of the Rings films, which brought in an estimated $6 billion combined.

But thankfully both parties have settled on an undisclosed amount.

Christopher Tolkien said, “The Trustees regret that legal action was necessary, but are glad that this dispute has been settled on satisfactory terms that will allow the Tolkien Trust properly to pursue its charitable objectives. The Trustees acknowledge that New Line may now proceed with its proposed films of ‘The Hobbit.‘ ”

Did you hear that? They can now proceed with The Hobbit!!

So, I’d officially like to toss my name in the hat to play the starring role of Bilbo Baggins! I think I could look like him with a little makeup…

  1. Right on! I could see that. Olivia Munn is the new Bilbo Baggins. It’s happening.

  2. Well if you did get casted as Bilbo,I’d have to say you’d be the best Bilbo Baggins.

  3. now, as i write this please remember how many folks are around me wearing mounds of theatrical makeup to pull what they pull. i don’t think there’s enough makeup on earth to make your face look like a hobbit. that having been said you’d still look hot, even as a hobbit. they’d have to c.g. you shorter though, pretty lady. in any event, i like you, in fact, well, uh HEY you as you are. no costumes necessary, (although they are definitely really good [emma frost] ) and most assuredly, not hiding your beautiful face. :)

  4. I don’t blame the Tolkien for demanding, “where’s My fuckin Money?” I’m glad that they FINALLY got paid, so that they can resume the filming of “The Hobbit.”

  5. Loved to read “The Hobbit”…nearly as good as “Lord of the Rings”. Really looking forward to watch that movie.

  6. New Line were being assholes. If the Tolkiens were owed 7.5%, pay them 7.5%. Fuckers. Glad The Hobbit is now green-lit again.

And Olivia, you’d make a terrible Bilbo. You would, though, make one hell of a kick ass elf!

  7. Thats awesome news, time to grow a wizard beard!

  8. Ahh yes. There is nothing hotter than a woman with giant hairy feet

  9. I was thinking that you would make an excellent Gandalf.

You would bring an Asian flair to the role that Ian McKellen never could!

  10. This animated movie was the shit! The songs are so tight, and there are parts that would scare the piss out of me as a little kid.

  12. Great news. The Hobbit was one of the first books i really loved.I am so glad it will be made into a movie. As far as you playing Bilbo, Olivia…….all the make up in the world wouldn’t help you look like a male hobbit.Take that as a compliment.Wow….i’m a charmer huh?…..”Hey Olivia…you don’t look like a guy hobbit “……..smooth Mike…hehe.

  13. I am soooooooo glad the Hobbit movie is back on track. I can not wait to see Bilbo fight dragons and goblins in this movie. Sorry Spoiler.

  14. When you get bilbo’s part will you find out if he has a love interest for me, I’m looking to break into acting. Your cross-dressing I’m cross dressing, it’s a beautiful thing.

Your too damn gorgeous to play Bilbo. Only I and my distorted features can pull it off.
Oh wait. I can’t act. I cant even lie. Ok I’ll play Smaug the dragon and sit on the pile of treasure while blowing smoke. Might need a touch of makeup.

Any-hoo. Can’t wait for this to appear. This was my first ever book.

  17. 7.5% of 6billion!! Wow. Wonder what they settled for? I mean…450million was owed…but id be happy with 10,000,000. Wonder what Peter Jackson’s cut was.

  18. Much pie eating will be required for you to play the role of Bilbo, get your fork out and start nom nom noming!

  19. Can someone explain to me why they’re planning on doing 2 movies? Is that really nescessary. The hobbit isn’t as long as any one of the LOTR books.

  20. Sweet! Guillermo Del Toro will do a great job as director and with Jackson still attached to produce I am sure he won’t let it go to shit. Hey Olivia, get that dude on the Dragons’s Corner segment of AOTS to prep us on all of Smaug’s attributes

  21. Olivia’s feet would look funny covered in fuzz…

  22. man that was a close one… i almost had to post-pone making my Bilbo costume!!! GAME ON!!!

also, looks like new lines cinima has a history of not payin its dues. first to the lord of the rings director, and then the author/estate.

I was hoping Billy Joe, lead singer of Green Day would play Bilbo.

Hmm, you do like pie….. lol maybe an elf instead? :P I’m glad they’re going to be able to do this movie, although I’m wondering how its going to be with a different director. Peter Jackson did an awesome job on the trilogy…

  27. You could totally play The Great Goblin! Going ugly is great for a movie career, just look at Charlize Theron.

  28. Hairy feet might not be a good move for you

  29. Well at least it finally resolved.

  30. Olivia. Sorry, you’re too tall. And Chinese. And a woman. Though you are a bit Hobbit-ish.
