Nintendo fashionably late to the Netflix party.

"Yah Wii-hoooo!"

Better late than never.

So it’s official.  The Wii is getting Netflix streaming capability.  Yay!  Unfortunately a disc will be required like the PS3 and it will not be able to support HD streaming.  But just like the other two consoles, no additional fee will be required (aside the Netflix subscription).   So all in all pretty Wii-tastic right?  I heart free stuff.

If you don't have one, are you more likely to buy a Wii now that it has Netflix streaming capability?

  1. lol what a crew of pirates that hangs about here

  2. First, I must point out that this is sort of old news. I heard this back in November!

Eitherhoo, I have all 3 systems, yet while my Wii receives the most of my attention, I’m not exactly jumping for joy upon hearing this, mostly due to the fact that I don’t use Netflix. I’m more of the old-fashioned, gotta-own-the-physical-disc kind of guy.

  3. Nintendo still uses dial-up…the memo just downloaded a few weeks ago.

Oh, and Olivia, that whole “better late than never” attitude…nice touch with the positivity…but just remember that motto does not apply to dairy products.

    life lesson = learned.

  4. Meh. Dont really care about Netflix on the Wii since I dont watch movies that much (but I will see Ironman 2). Since the Wii is the only true gaming system out there, let the 360 and PS3 have all that Netflix/Twitter/Facebook nonsense and I’ll go play Brawl for 2 more hours.

  5. It’s not that nintendo is late to the party…it’s the fact that streaming; netflix, pandora, YouTube, and facebooking is becoming an industry standard with Home media devices. So now my wii will be able to do it along with my blu Ray player, 360 and my PC (which are all hooked up to my tv) yet I don’t use the features on any of them and most liket won’t. I go see movies at the theater. Sure it cost a few dollars more but nothing beat the screen size and surround sound for a little bit more $$$

  6. I have a 360 but I kind of want a Wii now

  7. I hate that we continue to add OTHER functionality to electronics. It’s nice that my phone has a camera, gyroscope and a pedometer but when is it going to get reception in the other half of my house?

i already own a wii…but i doubt i’ll use it for streaming netflix…i don’t watch enough movies @ home to justify paying the monthly fee…i guess it’s cool to know that i can do it though… :)

I am totally ok with PS3 and Wii getting things that I have already enjoyed for a year or more on my Trusty Leet 360 kind of like when the PS3 finally got the The Orange Box and they had to pay full price for a game that the 360 has had for almost two years. I have a 360 and love it but I am sure I will eventually get a PS3 just for the Blu-ray and a few exclusive titles. I will probably inherit my dads Wii once the luster wears off Nothing like seeing boobies bouncing from Wii Sports LOL (.)(.)

My brother and I have a 360 and a PS3, so no big deal, but the wii is still fun for groups of people or anybody that isn’t used to gaming. Heheh, my parents have one. ^_^

  11. I want to get a 360 but i dont know if i have time to play it.

Not sure we have netflix here… But we get free TV from the BBC iPlayer in the UK. It’s built into the PS3 and Wii.

The Piratebay online store works just great for free films and US TV content…

too little too late, i bet wii owner are pumped tho

  15. The code for it, I bet, they figure would take up too much room in the Wii’s memory, that’s probably why it requires a disc. Still, cool beans. Not that I have a Netflix account. Maybe should look into that…

  16. I’m excited for it. I’m not a huge gamer, but do own a Wii and have Netflix. I’ve been waiting for this option for quite a while and am excited it’s finally here. I just don’t get why they don’t release a channel in the store to download instead of needing a disc…

  17. Have PS3..Netflix disk works great. Share PC media through PS3 and Blu-ray…

  18. this is great for the older demographic who plays the wii fit and still rents movies from blockbuster.

  19. haha silly wii always late haha

    love ya

  20. netflix stream is fun

  21. I just won a free Wii, but i am more excited about the ability to stream the movie Kuffs on all three systems. Win for Nintendo AND Christian Slater! BTW Olivia, you should watch Kuffs, mostly because it would kill most of the forum. I’ll send you a copy. = )

  22. I don’t have Netflix because I live in Canada.

I mean seriously, screw you Americans.
Except for Olivia. And Robert Downey Jr.

  23. Don’t have a Wii. Don’t have either of the other two consoles. Don’t have Netflix. However, I like fun. I simply find other things more fun. :)

  24. Toasters with kitchen timers?!? *Runs out the door*

  25. it all goes through my 360

  26. If I bought a Wii, it wouldn’t be because of this. I’d rather use my PS3 for any Netflix purchases.

    • Hi Kris, despite your unfortunate avatar pic, did u know that your name is a deadly hymlayin weapons? sorry bout my fuct up spellin but u aint a gramma nazzi. interwebs=death of secrets

  27. I like the concept of the wii. I have a lack of thumb dexterity and the wii circumvents that. Besides it’s like wave the wand, wave the wand, ah there’s the movie I was looking for.

  28. Good news if you already have a Wii and don’t want to drop the dough on one of the other consoles or on a Blu-Ray with streaming capabilities….I ended up getting the blu-ray, I am more of a movie guy and not a gamer…..

  29. I guess it ok that nintendo showed up late to the netflix party since sony and mircosoft were late to the motion control party.

  30. Better late than never. Still, its not really big deal considering that Nintendo is the last to offer a service that has been available for years online and through their competitors game systems.

  31. who owns a wii?

    • na but for real the wii isn’t even capable of HD playback so ur not gettin the full netflix experience so boo..

btw its about time for a random shoutout and im feelin lucky wutup munn

      • You do realize that the lastest Motocross vs ATV game in HD was horrid with templete glitchese so Xplay gave it -1 points then the SD version? YOur argument is like saying that everything is better in a maid’s outfit. I beg to differ.

      • lol @ the 3rd choice.. and 17 votes. ok last post.

  32. I’ll stick with my ps3.

  33. i’m VERY excited for this. i always want to watch Netflix in my dorm, but i gotta hook my MBPro up to my tv to do that…. but now i’ll be able to relax on my bed with Netflix on my Wii!

  34. good for nintendo

  35. ….well since the Nintendo Wii remote looks like a DVD remote control anyway, I guess it’s cool..

  36. I got an atari and play space invaders. Its like being invaded by real aliens.

  37. I’m sure it’s good news to Wii owners, congrats =).

  38. I was gonna get a Wii until I realized it wasnt worth the money to me at this time considering the games I play

  39. It’s good that the get it but it won’t sell more consoles.
One correction, you need to have xbox live gold account ($50) to watch movies on the 360.

  40. wow pretty one side vote huh
