Please don’t confuse all Australians as being in agreement to the few conservatives in power in one state. South Australia has always been of that nature, and it will continue to be a problem until the demographic changes in the next decade. But just because SA decides to do this doesn’t mean all other states will. Though products are classified federaly, individual states have the right to restrict classified material as they wish. Also, Australian film classification is different to the US. These are the close matches:
Aus - US
G - G
PG - PG
M (recommended 15+) - PG13
MA15 (requires adult) - R
R (18+) - NC17
X (only applies to porn)
As for video games being banned, this has again been held up by SA, since all states’ Attorneys-General must be in agreeance in regards to creation of a classification, and SA’s AG still refuses to approve an R rating for games, calling these games “porn”. This, of course, is him beginning to govern the entire country sinec he could still ban R rated games in SA once they’ve been classified. Which, unfortunately, leaves us open to ridicule from the rest of the civilised world. All this coming for the murder capital of Australia.
When will Holly Wood stop green lighting remakes that make a mockery of the great movies that originated them. I am not really interested in any of these films. Maybe I am just picky but they just don’t look that good to me.

I grew up watching the original and there’s no version they can ever make to replace it, but this one with jackie chan has got to be better than tha one wit hillary swank in it. . . Omgooodness! What do you mean “like every other video game movie”. I liked the Resident Evil movies and Alone in the Dark, and I may be in the minority but I liked Silent Hill too. I also thought Final Fantasy the spirits within was excellent, creative, and entertaining even though it really had nothing to do with the games ( which I hate anyway ). I could care less about tekken but not all video game movies are bad. For shame Olivia, for a person who works in a business that is so rooted in video games and movies, to make a generalization like that just took away some of your street cred.

I can’t render any judgement on a movie until I see the final product. That being said, most remakes are duds. And I’m not a Jim Carrey fan, either. As for R-rated movies in Australia becoming equivalent to X-rated movies…didn’t the same thing happen here in the States? There was a time when you could get away with almost anything in an R-rated movie in the US, then came along that idiotic NC-17 rating. Now, if a rape is even implied in a movie, even without a rape scene, it automatically gets an R-rating. Anything beyond that gets NC-17 or worse. And heaven forbid if you should put a long, consensual sex scene in a movie… the conservatives go ape-shit crazy over that sort of thing. But graphic, pointless violence is okay with them. ‘Amurrica!’, murder capital of the world.

“Kick Ass” and “Phillip Morris” looks promising. I like that one post on the Carrey movie; ‘has been labeled too gay for mainstream audiences’ And yet Twilight got through?.
As for Tekken, most MMA type movies seem to all look a like to me.
And as for Karate Kid, I hope it does well but I already have that movie in my life, don’t need another one.

Why Karate kid when it’s kung fu? The trailer didn’t look too bad except for the fact the kid is way to young. But why was Jackie Chan bitch slapping a bunch of ten year olds and why would the mother allow her young son to hang around with a scruffy chinese 50+ dude.
As far as Australian censorship they have always been weird that way banning video games especially seems to be a favourite pastime.
Tekken does exactly what it says on the tin (if that tin is full of shit).
I don’t get why a film company would be concerned enough with gay content in a movie to re-edit the trailer to play it down when 60% of Ewan Mcgregor’s career seems to have been him getting his wang out on camera so anyone who goes to see him must surely expect penises somewhere.
Kick Ass surely can’t live up to the trailer. Everything about this film seems so good that I’m in danger of setting my expectations too high.

I’m not really anticipating ANY of these movies next year. What about Tron 2 or the Expendables, or even that awesomely terrible trailer for the A Team? As for the Karate Kid, I haven’t seen an action star make this bad of a movie since Stallone in Stop or My Mom Will Shoot.

I actually think “The Kung Fu Kid” (I just can’t call that karate…cuz it ain’t) looks decent. Sure I love the old one(s) but the teacher and the student actually know martial arts training now and a jump-kick with raised arms was lame even back then. Really Johnny?!!! I play Tekken. I suck at Tekken. but, I am still a fan.
The movie looks fail though. But, it looks better than Mortal Kombat.
And I kinda liked Mortal Kombat.
But then again,

Plus, I am not sure how I feel about an Irish-Chinese actor playing a Japanese character named Jin Kazama.

Kick Ass looks like it’s gonna be a awesome action packed movie, with a dash of naughty humor. A winning combination in my book! The new Jim Carrey movie looks hilarious! I’m happy that Jim has gotten back to his brand of physical comedy, which made Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura Pet Detective such classics! Now as for the other two films Tekken, and The Karate Kid remake….well..for those that want to see those films, more then likely won’t have long wait, until they’re released on home dvd or bluray.
