Hello Captain, My Captain…

William Shatner was not asked to be in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. And there was rumor that there might be some hurt feelings and bad blood. So, Chris Pine, the actor who landed the role of Capt. Kirk, said in a recent interview that he wrote a letter to Shatner.
Pine said in the interview, “I wrote William Shatner a letter and explained who I was because I heard there was bad blood between him and the studio. I said, ‘I’m just an actor who happened to get a role that happened to be James T. Kirk, and I’m not trying to usurp your status or anything’. He replied, ‘Thank you very much for the letter. I wish you the best of luck.’ I have it on my fridge.”

I’m not sure if that Pine fellow is just being genuine or if that was a cheesey publicity stunt, him sending the letter to The Shatner.
classy repects on both sides but i hail to shatner though.
He isn’t a captain he is a Priceline negotiator now. Just saying
HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY,,,,,,,AWWWWWWWW….!!!!!!!………..CRAZY WILL….IS JUST………. PLAYER—-HATIIIIINNNNNNNNNN……….AWWWWWWWWWWW……!!!!…………OOOOOOOOOOOOO…….K
That shows a lot of respect on the young actor’s part, and a lot of class from a great Canadian like Mr. Shatner.
Too bad the studio was so dumb though. A cameo by Shatner in the role giving some good advice to the “new” Kirk would have made fans wet themselves in fanatical goodness. It’s like on TNG in the first episode when Nimoy did a cameo and is talking to Data about it being a good ship with a good name, and having Scotty show up for an episode to work with the new engineer of the ship that has always been the pride of Starfleet. Getting an older actor to pass the reigns to the next generation of stars is a classy thing to do in my opinion, and it is a subtle way of telling the fans “Hey, give these guys a shot… we paved the way, now let them drive.”
Who cares what Shatner thinks.
He is nothing but a wife murderer.
I love how his certified scuba diver wife that he just happened to be getting ready to divorce just happens to “drown” in their pool.
Right…
If Chris would have turned the letter over there was a warning to stay away from the a green woman on Sentary Alpha 7, the one with nice cans, because she is going to give him space herpes and tribble crabs. Oh, the trouble with those tribble crabs.
I would have done the same thing in Kirk’s position back then…. after all, the green horny chick was the original Batgirl (Yvonne Craig). She was all kinds of hot back then.
Shatner should have imparted some sage advice about taking over the Captain’s chair and how to handle the fans, instead of the basic form letter he sends out to the fans that write him.
classic
Class from both sides.nice to see a little respect shown in Hollywood for a change
George Takei got the same letter when he invited Shatner to the wedding.
(Pine, manipulating Shatner’s dead mouth) “Don’t worry. I forgive you Chris. I wuz just at the wrong place at the wrong time, so don’t feel so bad chief.”
Isn’t the Shatty a fatty. Kirk’s not fat is he? I never imagined him to be. Whatev small actors are better anyway. And not in size. I meant in popularity. lol.
LOL william shatner. he silly.
Very nice of Pine to do that.
Thats nice. i love Shat.
Good for him. Pine sounds like a good guy.
Good karma for the kid. Good job.
ALL HAIL JAMES T. KIRK!
hr deserves a cameo….nothing wrong with that
What a nice gesture. Way to pay your respects to your predecessor and the legacy of Star Trek. I would keep a letter from Shatner on my fridge too.
Cool thing to do. I wonder if Christian Bale did the same for Adam West.
Hey thanks olivia, i learned a new word today: usurp
Paying respect to your elders.
I have new found respect for that actor, very cool
got me a new job too. it wasn’t Shanters old gig though…….
No, no, no, what Shatner said, was that he was going to have Pine nailed to his fridge. Now…let’s get it straight ok? Sheesh….Domo!
Its a good thing he did that because Shatner is fckn crazy!
I sometime’s wish I was on Shatner’s fridge too.
nice move. Gave some nice respect. Pine is classy
baby steps son
R-E-S-P-E-C-T indeed.
CLASSY WITH A CAPITAL CLASSY
ROFLCOPTER AND LOLLERCOASTER INTO ACTION! SWOOSH!
Nice gesture indeed, but one that shouldn’t have even needed to be made. I don’t understand the point of this movie?? Didn’t we say everything we needed to say with the other 75 star trek movies, tv shows, and cartoons?? The thing that boggles my mind the most, is that apparently J.J. Abrahms isn’t even that big of a star trek fan, and wanted to make the movie because he liked the way they revealed the ship in a different star trek movie. Whatever, I guess I’m just in a mood today.
takes notes people
That was a nice gesture.
Very classy.
giggidy…giggidy goo. =D
