G4 layoffs

Sorry to use Ask Olivia to write this, but I’ve read rumors about the cutbacks and layoff’s at G4. Obviously, you can’t talk about it, but I just wanted to give me regards to everyone at the company. You all have made G4 so personable and friendly. It kinda feels like a big (dysfunctional) family. Please pass on my appreciation to those who may have been part of the layoffs. I hope things get better soon and I look forward to hopefully chatting with you and Kevin on Stickam again soon.

It was unfortunate to lose friends and coworkers on the show and network. People were laid off from every department including even someone on air. But, the reason for the layoffs is NOT because of poor ratings or lack of money. Let me explain this the only way I know how: Take a pie. G4 has a pie of money. Right now, G4’s two main shows take a lot of that pie. In order to grow as a network, we have to share our pieces of the pie with other new shows. And honestly, it’s not really a cutback. We amped up both XPlay and AOTS for the last year to help the network- which it did. Now, we’re going back to our old schedules to make room for new shows. In the process some changes were made and some people’s contracts were not renewed. It’s a sad, hard time, but I know everyone will end up okay. Thanks for the concern and continued support of the show and netowrk, Jack.

the whole network has sucked since leo laporte left anyway … the only thing g4 has going for it is aots … and now since olivia is rarely ever on anymore cause shes out doing other work on her own … theres really no reason to watch the network at all … let it die fire olivia for being a giant sellout and move on to the next big thing
Agreed. I’m not sure why g4 is going in the direction of being a cheap knock off of spike tv with horrible comedy sketches added in. I used to watch g4 religiously when the majority of their content was tech related like the screensavers. I put up with AOTS just because it has about 5 mins of stuff I’m interested in and of course Olivia but now it’s not worth it. I’ll just subscribe to some tech site and stop watching g4 all together.
yeah i have to agree, old G4 was better, when G4 announced Campus pd and a second season to human wrecking balls! I called Dish network up and canceled G4. Olivia did point one things out how big xplay and AOTS is. But i believe that that’s the ONLY thing this network has that’s keeping it alive. Hopefully when G4 (if it ever) goes back to the old way then i’ll add it back to my lineup. It was G4 (tv 4 gamers) that inspired me to be a video game programmer, both me and my girlfriend
i mostly agree with u but i would never cancel my beloved G4. i’ve been watching it before aots even started airing i remember the very first commercials for it. even tho campus pd and human wrecking balls are new shows and coming back that doesnt mean u have to watch them. i think it’d be awesome if G4 ran old cartoons on saturday mornings like g.i joe,transformers,thundercats and maybe even some old 90’s ones like sonic the hedgehog that aired on disney back when it meant something. i miss cinematech and barbed wire biscuit too.

Layoffs can be a good thing cause new opportunities can arise like pole dancing, interpretive dance, and drug dealing. I was gonna list pimpin but its kinda hard out here for a pimp right now, bitches wanting to get paid and there is just something wrong with that.
Can you imagine losing your Job because Kevin needed a salary bump, that’s the kinda shit that makes you want to know what the business end of a shotgun tastes like.

Let me get this correct people are getting laid off so G4 can put a show on about people throwing up? Catering to idiots equals higher ratings. The executives must be true geniuses for putting that show on a channel that prides itself on being tech savvy. Totally Idiotic. TechTV’s was good. As for a gaming channel maybe if 90% of the games were something more than RTS and first person shooters. A little bit of creativity goes a long way.

I agree, cops and cheaters are the worst shows on g4 yet they are on all the time. We need more good shows… Shows with olivia in them, or they should bring back portal, that show was hilarious.

I guess one of the layoffs was XPlay’s announcer/voice-over guy, since the show opening and cuts to commercials are different. I’ll be sad to see Layla go, but it was HER decision, She did her best work co-hosting AOTS, not doing the Feed. We’ll be seeing plenty of her somewhere else eventually. As long as Olivia, Kevin, Morgan and Adam are around, I’m happy

I felt bad about the layoffs. especially since Steve Norman was part of it…he was awesome running the stickam chats, but he is doing well and was able to find work quickly so that is good. I will miss chatting with you and Kevin during he show Olivia. Thanks for keeping it real Olivia and quelling some of the fans concerns.

Ha yeah I used to be mad whenever she showed up to do The Feed, because she moved her arms A LOT. However, she’s grown on me since and has eased up on the detracting arm movements. Plus she does a lot of sweet things and looks out for her fans. Layla was good at what she did, however I always felt like there was some disconnect between her and the rest of the AOTS crew, even though when her and Chris co-hosted, it was epic.
Now that Alison will be doing The Feed more often, I’ll bet she will feel more comfortable and be as natural as she is when she does other segments.
It always sucks when co-workers are fired/laid off and you never see them again. That’s why I hate change- it’s always bad. (99.9 percent of the time at least.)
I go to Starbucks every day and have gotten to know all of the Baristas at my store really well- the store is closing the 6th, and I’ve now learned that the three girls I liked the most, that were the nicest to me and were interested in my day-to-day activities are not being transferred and I’ll never see them again.
That just depresses me to no end, when you realize you’re never going to see someone again. For some- especially celebrities- its no big deal, you meet new people and make friends easy. For some of us it takes years just to make a single friend, and losing them is crushing and saps your will to even try anymore.
Anyhow, off of the bleak realities of life, Alison is outstandingly hot and will do a great job on the Feed. Layla was great and will be missed. Maybe this opens up the opportunity for her to make some money while she’s not working doing a Playboy spread, which would be a huge win for all! 8D
Hopefully G4’s new shows are quality and they get rid of the crap none of us want to see- like Cheaters, Cops and reruns of other shows. Bring back the fun stuff like Portal- I miss Portal so much. =)
Personally, I think they should just merge X-Play into AOTS and have the show on 5 nights a week. Just add Sessler as a regular segment guest (like Gore) talking with Kevin, like they have done a couple times in the last few weeks. Overall, AOTS is a very entertaining show (and Kevin and Olivia are great hosts) but there are always 1-2 pre-taped packages that I just fast-forward past. Just replace those mediocre packages with a recurring X-Play segment and you have an awesome show.
that’s what i love about olivia.. she keeps it 100% real with the fans. Real recognizes Real. What. Fuckin. Up. Olivia For President in 2012!!!
If this means less (or better yet, none) Cops and Cheaters, I’m all for it. It’s sad that Layla and others had to go. Hope everything works out well for them.
Thanks for being open with us and answing the comment on the layoff at G4. I know it was hard for you to talk about it and we appericate your honesty I know I can speak for all your fans when I saw we all are Sorry to hear that some of your friends will be leaving the network and that we won’t be seeing you on friday’s anymore. Hopefully thngs will change and G4 will find a way to expand there network and keep some of the employee’s. If not I wish you and them all the best.

whoa man a movie review show lol i would watch .. its a hit.. it writes itself..lol u got viewer opinion corner we got top new realeses … we got the must see classics .. lol it could only go on so long without an edge… lol and not being able to preview them early might be a crush like who wants to see a review of something they already watched…
i know attack of the show is like a funny “whats what in the world” show…
but what about a funny look at the daily news…. like first you start out with ppl on the payroll and then u get some attention with good humor about news in america and funny quotes ppl say.. and then you get ppl who need poblicity to do free interviews .. you bring on a comedian to talk ..just like leno you know what i mean and attack of the show has that humor and has that interest and that news vibe… but u got to take control of the markets needs .. and when you can watch real world news with a comedy twist .. i think that could be the feed we need..

as where having commercials during your show .. would be a huge market.. you should reach out to the local market for advertisers as where you market alot of your own shows.. i mean during the superbowl they make millions … our petition had 50 000 signatures in 5 days.. so we need proof of our power in the local market… take a cheap … well designed television that looks amazing that u can get at best buy… then we get money for running a best buy commercial.. we get money for saying the product name and supporting it.. and the we sit back and wait… if they notice a sales increase then we got contracts… but we already made money on advertising. As a show.. u got all the time and can just go throguth products…

To be honest I’ve always thought g4 as a network pretty much blows. You have 2 great shows and some great people on those 2 shows but the rest of the stuff they air is junk. Syndicated shows from forign countries and dudes breaking shit for no reason not mention the continous loop of movies that were good 10 years ago. They do need new original programming with the key word being original. They should use the talent they have in house but now some are gone. Alison, Layla (who I guess is gone now), Blair B., and Hardwick would all make great hosts for a new show. A comic show with Blair would be a great idea. A movie review show with Chris Gore would be another.
Plus now I don’t get any Munn on fridays now?!!!!!?!!! That really sucks.

wow i like x play sometimes and attack of the show is awesome… but some of those shows are just weak like i ain’t gonna watch em… but i think they should revamp the video game shows to at least get one of them geared towards adult content … i realize they focus on the more popular games as they should but…. having more open content having deeper insight.. i mean when i seen killzone 2 previews on g4 i stay and watch .. and i bet u notice what games collect and log veiwers .. its just gonna take a few try’s towards what we should show who should say it and how far we go towards .. mature content

This is so awful. But I’m glad to hear your ratings are up. I was worried that the show was not doing well when I heard the news, but I couldn’t believe it because its a great show. Hopefully AOTS will return to 5 nights a week when everyone has had a share of the pie.

Now you know how TechTV fans felt when G4 took it over and everything went downhill quality-wise. The first time G4 changed their programming was because of poor ratings. I just hope what they plan actually teaches us something rather than a bunch of childish shows.
This news saddens me, and I was already not having a good week. It just went from bad to worse.

I think G4 needs more video game or electronic type shows. All I look forward to watching is AOTS and XPlay. It seems like all the other shows: Cheaters, Cops, Whacked Out Videos etc. are re-runs and on a continuous loop in the daytime. Oh why can’t AOTS be on all day long, you guys could do it, easily, I believe in you.
What new shows? Cheaters and Cops? ’cause that’s all I’ve seen on G4 lately (and they suck)
