My college had one. Only watched it a couple times in the dorms. There was student radio as well.

I went to NMSU and majored in Journalism. We had a television station on campus(PBS) which served as a training ground for those in the program. As far as starting one up...just know it would be extremely costly. Also to be a true broadcast station, it would have to be licensed by the FCC.

To be honest don't know what it would cost. Every station or facility I've worked at were multi million dollar facilities. Not saying its not do-able. I've seen cable access facilities done on the cheap. Couple of good cameras, mics, small light kit, computer and some decent editing software to start. Really depends on what your goal is. How you intend to distribute or air the media. Prolly can do some research online on public access programming or closed circiut tv.

we are just now starting a tv station to be broadcast on campus in the fall. i'm not sure of the cost, but it kind of depends on what equipment your school communications program already has. talk to the head of the department first, and go from there. you're probably going to need to visit other local schools with stations to help you see what you'll need. that's what we did at my school. good luck with it!
