I was reminded of my one and only sky dive recently, thought I'd share with the group. It was a tandem jump, with a tiny (under 5 foot), ripped, French dude strapped to my back. I'm 6'2 so that was a little awkward.
2 points I'd like to share:
- Fear of heights is totally not an issue, once you're in the open doorway it's like looking at Google maps. The sense of height is gone and it's awesome. Really, you're basically flying! I couldn't wait to jump out.
- Worst part of the whole experience is being stuck in the back of a tiny plane with 14 dudes nervously farting. Non-fucking-stop. I would have been laughing if I wasn't gagging ... another reason I couldn't wait to get out.
I'd definitely do it again, will probably start the process to be able to jump solo.
Has anyone else ever done it? Would you do it again? And what were the best/worst parts?
Erm, If you've had a dream about doing it I guess this is the thread too.

Don't tease, tell us more about your hulking 6'2' frame strapped in tight against this sinewy Van Dammish Frenchman.

I have video of the whole thing, but no one ever gets to see that. You'll just have to let your imagination run wild.

@AA your such a tease!

Peaches it's up to us to imagine the intimate secrets of AA's adventure. Ok, he wakes up that morning, nervous but feeling electric and alive. As he does every day, he slips into his giant ostrich costume and heads out the front door...

@Peaches, Fine, I'll show it to you, but no showing Grassy!

@AA yay!!

I've really wanted to try this just haven't had the chance.
I'd love to feel 200mph (321.86kph), planes don't count. Probably have to nose dive for that kind those speeds.
I would like to try with those suits that'll let you go horizontal even if it's not at a fast speed.
How many tandem jumps before you're allowed to jump solo ?
Patience, good things come to those who wait...Posted 10 months ago # -
@Grassy when AA shows it to me, ill describe the whole thing to you

man i have been waiting to go skydiving forever! i need to go!

I went skydiving once too, it was an awesome experience. Falling from 13000 ft and freefalling for about one minute was amazing. The guy I went tandem with was Australian and was awesome, without the guy in tandem there would be no way I could get straight as soon as I left the plane. I was flying in all directions and had no idea how my body was rotating. One day I hope to take the required classes and stuff in order to be able to jump solo.

I've gone once, on Oahu. It was freaking awesome, and I'd love to do it again.. My wife has probably gone about 80 times. Back in her college days, one of her friends had a plane and they would go all the time.
On the ride up, all the other "instructors" were going over the details with their jumpers. My guy was reading The Hobbit. My only moment of fear was when they opened the door at 14,000 feet and suddenly there was an enormous void of nothing staring back at me. Bit it only lasted a second.
Another odd thing was the noise. When you're free-falling it is perhaps the loudest experience ever, but once the chute opens the silence is exquisite.@Grassy- I think you misunderstood AA's post a little. He actually wears a Frenchman strapped to his back in his daily life, it wasn't something just related to the jump.
Any of you homos touch my stuff... I'll kill ya.Posted 10 months ago # -
@Lumpz
Yeah knowing that you basically have to do nothing but fall takes all the anxiety out of it hey? You're just a rock with eyes and (apparently) flappy skin.
@Daveo
Like thats a bad thing? Me and pierre can go basically anywhere in europe/canada as a functioning unit.Posted 10 months ago # -
I got my jump wings in the Marines and have done solo jumps in the military and outside the military. Including combat equipment day jumps, combat equipment night jumps, HAHO & HALO jumps (both in and out of the Marines), and a mixture of both feet wet and feet dry jumps. For out honeymoon I took my wife for a jump in Cozumel that was awesome.
It's really fun and like @AnotherA said it feels like your flying or floating.
I've always wanted to get into the "extreme" jumping but have never spent more than a moment or two thinking about it.http://twitter.com/trojanmayhem
Come manifest yourself in front of me, that I may pee on you......Posted 10 months ago # -
hahah 14 dudes nervously farting... i would be one of them.
I think maybe the farts would have been wet, prolly diareahic.That sounds like a lot of fun tho, is it hard to breath?

Jumping out of a perfectly good plane? Uhmm, I'll pass. Thanks!

So me and Peaches just watched the secret skydive video. All anyone needs to know is there was a LOT of Van Halen in the background ("that's what dreams are made of"?) and a lot of ostrich penis. I'm not even sure if we watched the right video.

I went skydiving once. It was my first time, and most likely my last. lol It was an incredible experience. I jumped in North Shore, Oahu. I'm scared of heights but for some reason I was terrified. I actually stayed calm until the guy and I jumped out, then i had second thoughts but it was too late. Overall the worst part of it is when the chute opens and you do a whip effect and your thighs/manhood go through a painful sequence. But it was amazing!

@grassy, i dont think we did either... damn it AA you cheated us
Posted 10 months ago # -
@JWils Oh yeah, the junk loosening whiplash is ouchy. Although I didn't really feel it until I'd been on the ground for 15 minutes. True story: There was a guy who jumped from the same plane as I that pooped himself.

@AnotherA Here is a nice cadence for you, so next time you go out you're prepared.
C130 rolling down the strip, Bacon Platoon gonna take a little trip
stand up buckle and shuffle to the door
jump right out and shout BACON CORPS!!
if my chute don't open wide I got some bacon by my side
if that bacon should fail me too
I'll hit the ground before you do
Stickin' and a stabbin'
hookin' and a jabbin'
running through the jungle with my bacon-16
I'm a mean motherfucker
I'm a U.S. Bacon MarinePosted 10 months ago # -
