Any PC gamers, like me, who are boycotting MW2 since IW is screwing the people who made their game popular?
Nope!
screwing them how now?
The PC community has always used dedicated severs for online matches, i.e. private people pay to rent an IP address for a server and have complete control over that server. This is a big deal since in the past, you could make your own server to practice on, play only with your friends on, play with mods, or play on user created maps. IW wants to replaced the tried and true dedicated server method for "IWNet", basically IW controls everything like they do on consoles. Any console gamer who played CoD 4 knows that out of 10 games, 4 will end due to the host quitting. There is none of that on the PC version of CoD 4 since the server, which is dedicated, not a player's connection, will never quit. Also, PC games are always $50, not $60 like they are on consoles. Long story short is that IW is killing the very people who made their game popular. Watch these vids to get more info if you want, he does an excellent job of explaining the situation-

@Th3 H4nmgamn I can perfectly understand your grip, as a PC gamer but...you know that boycotting Modern Warfare 2, is a losing battle. That game is gonna be HUGE. When I say HUGE, I mean like a GTAIV sales figures kind of HUGE.

check out the 1:40 mark.
and have you seen how many views there's been to each video that comes out?
boycotting is not gonna work.
and for me. hackers are retarded, especially in ranked games.
never seen any on Xbox Live, but on PS3(pre-patch) there was a hacker in just about every game i was in....even with the patch, i've seen a few.
No way! It's gonna be awesome. Can't wait to play.
how could you say no to this!

I'm well aware that the gameplay will be great but I'm not going to submit. IW already lost a potential $6,000,000 if you count everyone who signed the petition and presumable canceled their pre-order, like me. I think that will get them to change their mind. Having dedicated servers saves money for IW by not having them buy servers but it also looses them money from people not buying DLC and they can't "end life" their game. The guy explains it all in his videos.
i just watched that guys video.
mods and community maps.
WHO CARES! you want to make your own game, then make it.
there's 164000 of you who signed the petition, well get together and make a game better than IW can!
IW has probably less than 500 workers who worked on the game...probably even 100
you PC users want a better one, then go make one.
you're basically stealing what they're offering and making your own game.
i'm not a PC gamer, but i've seen what modding does on the PS3. those are the worst players. which is why i'm getting the Xbox version, where i know i won't see a hacker.
no one is forcing you to get this game. add it up 164000 x $50 = 8mil.
why don't you guys collect all that and make your own game. i'm sure you can make a "better" game than what IW is offering....
We're not saying the game will be bad. We are just saying that we don't like IW taking away privileges that all PC gamers have enjoyed on pretty much all PC games and even CoD 4. Especially since they owe us for making their games well known. And the mods which you are refereeing to are ones that people use to cheat. The mods he is talking about are ones like promod, which gaming leagues REQUIRE you to have in order to play.
you ever hear of the saying "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch"?
its easier to knock out all Mods, than to try and figure out how to pin point 1 modder that is cheating.
Well, their were Punk Buster anti-cheat systems which were going to be used, but now VAC, which sucks, is going to be used, so a million people will be modding. And for mods like promod, it is the whole server, not just one person.
no dude your out of your mind. Dude and look at how many people have console like xbox 360s and ps3s. join them toegether youve got billions of online players. dude it wont work. they make that money back with just console players
I know that they'll make millions of dollars, but we have to draw the line somewhere.
in all honesty
i would like to see what 164000 boycott-ers can make.

cause this Mod game looks freaking awesome.
I saw that a while ago, still cool. I just wish they told you what each gun's Star War's equivalent was.
its Star Wars. all guns were crappy! hahah
My two cents: I too think suppressing dedicated/private servers and mods is a crime against gamers.
Mods:
For all who think "screw mods"...Let me remind you that one of the most influentian games there is "Counterstrike" (nope, I'm not a fanboy) started as a mod for Half-Life. And still today there are some really good mods with lots of potential out there, "Insurgency" for HL2 for example.
Private servers:
IW runs the servers and in probably two years they will say: "Keeping the servers up isn't viable anymore we shut them down. Btw we have a new game you might wanna buy, it just got new servers you can play on"...what basically would kill the multiplayer part. Good shooters on private servers are played a lot longer than that. For example the first "Unreal Tournament" form 1999 was played in leagues until 2004 or even longer...I doubt they will keep them up 5 years.
Price:
IW started with charging 60$ for the PC version but realised soon enough that this would cause outbursts of fury. You might think why should the PC version be cheaper than the console version? Well, thats because the consoles are subsidized by the manufacturer, what causes a higher selling price in order to reach the profit margin.
I can understand why PC gamers (me too) are pissed off by that. Personally I won't buy it...at least not until the price drops. Boycotting it won't make that much of a difference, though...profits out of selling dlc will more than compensate for that, I guess.
Finally, someone feels my pain!
