I get the point of the racial backdrop, I get why it needed to be there. What I don't get is why there was no progression in Vickus or Vickers or Wickus or whatever his name was. Honestly, based on the progression I saw in him, he still doesn't trust Christopher. You know how in American History X, Edward Norton's character truly has a change of heart? And even though nothing around him really has changed, he has changed because of his experience. That's what I was looking for, and it just wasn't there.

And I'm not saying the special effects are bad, just that they're not mind blowing like everybody seems to think. They were ok. I really wouldn't have said anything poorly about them if everybody wasn't touting them up. They were kinda average.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

If you didn't like it thats okay I guess. Personally one of the top 5 films of the year so far.

As for the effects, I think a lot of us looked at it on a scale, for a $30 million dollar picture, the effects are awesome, especially considering that GI Joe cost $175 million and the effect were shit.

Hugs and Kisses to All of Your Pink Parts.

    @ryan

    he did change.
from seeing his life as worthless....to fighting for a greater cause, which was "freeing" the Prawns.
he sacrificed himself for them, by getting guns, getting the gas, getting the mech, lastly getting Chris to the ship.

i guess you miss the part where he says "district 10 is shit compared to here"

what movie have you been watching where the CGI was amazing?
cause i haven't seen any where i'm like "that's awesome" Transformer 2 at times....but the story just made me hate it.

Just saw the movie, so finally commenting. I assume *spoiler alert* is redundant at this point.

Going back to the page 2 discussion about the fuel and transformation, and why it took 20 years for them to get it; I'd say all that stuff is in there to lay the groundwork for the sequel, so its intentionally unanswered in this film. The scene where the 3 Prawns were scavenging for that stuff seemed to hold some clues though. "That's human technology, it's useless" Which indicates it took them 20 years to find pieces of THEIR technology with which to extract enough fuel. Which then begs the question (or at least in my mind) - was some of their technology already on this planet before the ship arrived then? I have some wacky theories about that, so hopefully a sequel gets made to see if I'm even close.

@ryan I kind of felt the same way towards Wikus, so I think I know what you mean. All of his actions are basically just to save himself, but hey, maybe that's just who this guy is. However, isn't that more believable for a character who'd basically been herding these aliens for 20 years, (and was not too upset when they got shot in front of him as he's trying to relocate them), rather than if within 1 hour of the movie he suddenly became a Prawn-rights avenger?

If you are looking for a moment of redemption for him, what about when he came back to rescue Chris though? By that point, he'd already been told he couldn't be changed back for 3 years, but when his mech heard that they were going to kill Chris he came back to save him. So he did put his life on the line there with nothing to gain. More than I've ever done for another human, let alone a crustacean.

I am obsolete. This must be what old people feel like. And Blockbuster.

I kind of have mixed feelings about a sequel. Like sometimes I feel that Distrtrict 9 was fine just the way it was and a sequel isn't needed but however a sequel would be good if Neil Blomkamp trys something completley different for the sequel when it comes to the camera work.

@briscojr he has plenty to gain. If he let Christopher die, there was no way he'd go back to normal, ever. And no way he could ever be with his wife with his current state, essentially his entire life would be forever destroyed if Christopher wasn't able to leave.

Finally saw the movie and it was a total meh for me. Not a bad movie but definitely not the amazing sci-fi movie everyone told me it was.
