I *think* this is breaking news... tickets are now on sale online for Comic-Con 2010 in San Diego. $100 for a 4-day pass, which also includes the preview night.

    http://www.comic-con.org/cci/

Now the big question for those who've been before... where did you recommend for a place to stay? I just checked the Hard Rock, since it's right across from it, and it's already sold out for those dates. I'd like to get somewhere within walking distance if possible and if its semi-reasonably priced. Really would appreciate advice. kthxbai

So expensive now...I wish I got it this year while I am still a junior.

    Ohh, good for you.
    And how was it?

100 bucks for a 4 day pass isn't bad if you live locally or within a decent driving distance.

Yeah, I don't think the ticket price is bad. I'm surprised it's that cheap for 4 days really. It's the air fare and accommodation that's going to be the real expense.

The Marriott (also across from the SDCC) does have rooms for those dates, but a single is $410.00 per night, non-refundable. Multiply that by 5 and for $2,000 I'm going to want more than just autographs at Comic-Con!

It may just be worth it to buy the 4 day pass now, and then use the next few months to plan he accommodations.

I think it was Gerrad that said not to plan a ComicCon trip later than November.

I also heard that getting the accommodations for ComicCon are the hardest part of going to the event.

It was only $75 dollars this year for a 4 day pass. Sounds like ComicCon is getting a little greedy.

I was about 5 to 7 blocks away and still had to pay $200 for 1 night.
But the good thing was they have free shuttle buses that stop near most of the major hotels, so if you dont want to walk (which my hotel was within walking distance) you can hop on a bus.

    @Peaches:

At least you will not have to worry about hotel costs.

I know you will get a job soon, just keep searching. I know you will find something soon!

Besides ComicCon is still 10 months away.

Here is my 18 years of Comic Con Experiance.

You need to purchase badges no later than December, the beginning of January is pushing it.

You need to book hotels by February at the latest. Personally the last few years I have stayed at the outer laying hotels in National City or on Hotel Circle. Its a fairly cheap cab ride, or park your ride at one of the lots and take the free shuttle in. You save a lot becaus eyou can book a room for like $150 a night, then tack on either parking or a cab ride per day of about $20 and it adds up. Especially if you are going in a group.

Other bits of advice. Get a room with a fridge and pack your bags wih snacks and water. Its costly to eat in the hall. If you really wanna chow down take the free shuttle to the mall or one of the hotel on the path and eat downtown for lunch.

After con walk over into the Gaslamp. Plenty of dining in all price ranges and quality. Best part is that the shuttles run till midnight or so so you still can get back to wear you parked. My personal parking recomendation if you can't get into the tall lot next door that also feeds Petco Park is out by the Marina. Easy shuttle access.

You can actually spend all day doing events and not have to move your car or grab a cab until you are ready to leave.

A few other notes- Study the program guide and plan your days so you don't have to carry so much stuff around, especially if you ar elooking for signatures. Also don't wait on your key purchases until the end of the day. If you really want something, chances are someone else does too. Be early for exclusives and ticket raffle, and beaware that limited stuff that isn;t metered out over the 4 days is usally sold and the price trumped up by Thursday.

Sunday is the best day to haggle on books. Most retailers don't want to lug the stuff back so that is the best time to make an offer.

Now if you wanna meet Olivia. Be there early, have your OMFG badge, and if you are going to do the AOTS signing or AOTS panel, be several hours early to the location. I know Dave-O and a few others I was with missed out on the panel and we were there plenty early.

One last note- as SDCC 2010 draws closer, I know am going to organize an unoffical meetup other than whatever Olivia plans after the con one night. I think it would be great to share some drinks with just the dedicated fans who post on th blog.

Let me know if I can offer any more advice.

Love and Kisses to All of Your Pink Parts.

@Gerrad... Great advice. I was a first timer this year and thought I did a lot of research, talking to people and planning, but it still is very overwelming the first time you go. I would do a lot of stuff different the next time.

Thanks for the tips Gerrad. Gotta say it was posts like yours and Dave-O's (new from Kellogg's) during last Comic-Con, and awalker's awesome videos that finally pushed me over the edge to going. I've regretted not going the past couple of years, especially after watching the Comic-Con shows on G4, and I've just decided I'm absolutely going next year.

Probably way too early to think about, but yes, an OMFG meet-up should definitely happen. Heck, I think Comic-Con should even give it a hall and there could be a panel. Imagine it... 'All About Peaches - LIVE!' 'Bacon or Sauage?' And maybe we could settle the whole Megan Fox thing once and for all.

I know there was an attempt at an "official" shirt, so hopefully someone pulls that off before SDCC 2010. Would it not make sense (and some money) for Olivia to actually sell a shirt on this site? Maybe that could be like the OMFG sign people used to get their autographs first at this years Con.

@Paweezy You'll finally be able to make us all those drinks for real!

Gah, I've got like 20 more paragraphs of ideas and it's 10 months away. I'll spare you all... for now.

Bought my 4 day pass, if I'm coming from Australia the rest of you have no excuse not to be there hehe. Unless you're too cool, then I understand.

I agree nightly omfg events are a must. Meetups away from the sdcc crowds and with alcohol preferably. They may require moderation.

More thanks to gerrad and any other vets who can share survival tips too. Is there a way to book time riding around on your back, getting the VIP experience?

I've got a good feeling about you.

Hell yeah Andy. Will you be bringing the spacemask?

I know what the cost of that trip is, and shame on ANYONE who makes another "Olivia visit my town" thread, and whines that she should come there.

Another good piece of advice I forgot to mention has to do with your party. If you are going with someone (or a group of someones) inevitably you will get separated. Make up some meeting times and locations before you start the day so you are all on the same page. A lot of times you might not hear or feel your cell going off.

Another good tip is to plan your nightly events. They show a lot of free movies at the neighboring hotel, as well as have events like the Eisner's on Friday, which can or can't be fun depending on your love of comics, and the Masquerade which is usually a fun way to get some great pictures. You can also get keyed inon free screenings and parties. Last year includied a commentary screening of Watchmen with Zack Synder and a Roller Skate party with the Robot Chicken guys. Giant Kaiju wrestling matches or live art shows are also fun events.

Remember that if you are going to wear a costume be ready to pose for a lot of pictures. Lately there has also been a noticable increase in scantily clad females AND males at the show...

A day or two before the show make sure to do a search for all the collectible exclusives being released. The Comic Con website will list a lot of them, but there are many companies that don't, especially if you are into toys, Hasbro, Kid Robot, and others often have show exclusives that are NOT on the events guide.

I should also point out the two most important rules of comic con
    Showing and using deodorant.
    Have fun

Cheers again on hopefully behalf of more than just me.

Been researching hotels online today, as I assume there's no point in waiting? Can't see any reason they would get less full or cheaper the closer it gets. Would it be a mistake to book this early? Some of them do have a no refund policy in place for these dates, so once you're booked, you're cooked.

    @Brisco
Absolutely book now. The only reason I have been waiting that long is confirmation on my RM Pro Registration. If he can't get back in as a pro, which shouldn't be a problem, we usually just book a cheaper hotel. Actually there is a larger group of us going next year and after reading this post the other night we are all getting together this weekend to discuss bokking arrangments. I'll prolly be set up by the end of the month myself. If you recall passes sold out in nearly March last year, so that 0 month window is a lot smaller than you think.

No way in hell I'm going. Even if I had the dough and I actually enjoyed flying. That's too many God damned people for me to handle. I mean people just suck. Plus I'm not a comic book guy.

Comic Con is less and less about comics per say and more and more about popular culture. But yeah the people crowding was some of the worse I have ever seen last year. Preview Night on Wednesday use to be my favorite, but it was worse than Saturday last year...120,000 people rammed in there...
